The life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Medina will begin from today’s 26th episode.

That is, from the time of the migration until the end of his life in Medina. The arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to Medina was a new chapter for Islam. The Muslim conquest began from this Medina. But the journey to Medina and Islam did not happen in a day. If Allah had willed, He could have appointed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to Medina on the very first day of receiving prophethood. He could have made the situation in Mecca easier for the companions. But Allah has been testing Muslims for 13 long years. These long 13 years were a training period for them. Life in Mecca was a time of great responsibility for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, and the main purpose of this responsibility was to spread Islam throughout the world.

However, the intention was not to make Islam only centered in Medina. If that was the intention, Islam would have been only centered in Medina. But that did not happen, rather Islam spread around Medina through jihad. So life in Medina means discussing jihad.

The life of Medina was only 10 years, but in these ten years, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) participated in about 70 battles, both small and large.

However, after Pharaoh, Allah adopted a new method, which is Jihad fi Sabilillah.

Allah destroyed all the forces of disbelief up to Pharaoh through punishment. Since then, Allah has defeated the enemies through His believing servants. And the destruction of the infidels through the believers is called Jihad fi Sabilillah.

The group that believed in Allah before the Muslims were the Children of Israel. The first people to be commanded to wage jihad were the Children of Israel. The Children of Israel were the first Ummah before the advent of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is in this context that Allah Almighty commands the Ummah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to wage Jihad, which will continue until the Day of Judgment. Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that this “Din”  will be established and my Ummah will continue to fight until the Day of Judgment.

Jihad will not only last until the Day of Judgment, but it will continue somewhere. And the final victory in this conflict will be achieved through Jesus Christ. The Muslim Ummah will be victorious under his leadership and there will be no one else except Islam.

Today we are going to discuss a new topic, which is the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Medina. We say that Medina is the city of the Messenger of Allah. There is only one person in this entire city, and that is our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them) were walking through the intense heat of the desert. On their journey, they met two famous companions. They are Ar-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Tala bint Raji (may Allah be pleased with him).

These two companions were coming from a place called Sham and they presented the Prophet with two sets of clothes. Wearing this white garment, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) set out towards Medina. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not go to Medina first. He first went to a place near Medina called Qubai.

Meanwhile, despite the intense heat, the Ansar gathered at a place called Har Ram every morning to welcome the Prophet (peace be upon him).

But when the heat of the summer increased, they returned home, and that day, like other days, they went to that place and waited for the Prophet (peace be upon him). But like that day, they started to turn back without seeing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

But then a Jewish man saw from a high building that two men were approaching Medina. He understood what he meant: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them) were walking towards Medina, dressed in white.

Seeing this, the man shouted, “You have been waiting for him to leave for so long, he has come.”

Just hearing this, the Ansar rushed towards the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with their weapons. They had a custom of welcoming with weapons. And this shows that they are willing to provide security to the arriving guests.

As soon as the Prophet (peace be upon him) entered Quba, the Ansar began to welcome him.

Since the Ansar had never seen the Prophet (peace be upon him), they were not sure which of these two men was the Messenger of Allah. So when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat under the shade of a tree and Abu Bakr was standing, they began to greet Abu Bakr, thinking that he was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). But when the sun rose overhead, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) covered the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with his cloak, and by this they understood who the Messenger of Allah was.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was in Qubai for about 13 to 19 days. There, he built the first mosque in the history of Islam. Which is called Masjid Quba.

Everyone in the house where the Prophet (peace be upon him) was staying were unmarried young men. While there, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wrote a letter requesting permission to enter the city, and In response to the letter, they sent a delegation to the Prophet (peace be upon him).

The delegation said that you are safe here and that you will be respected. That is, the Prophet Muhammad went there as a leader, and Allah Almighty said about this:

And We did not send any messenger except to be obeyed by permission of Allah. And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, [O Muhammad], and asked forgiveness of Allah and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

    (Quran 4:64)

Finally, that joyful moment came. Someone said, “The Prophet (peace be upon him) has arrived.” The best moment for the people of Medina was the arrival of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Everyone came out on the streets wearing new clothes and started rejoicing. What was the Prophet’s (PBUH) first day like in Medina? Everyone wanted the Prophet (PBUH) to stay in their house.

But the Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed with Banu Najjar because he was related to him by blood.

Now let’s find out why Medina was chosen for the migration. Everything happens according to God’s will and plan. Scholars have identified some reasons for this. First, Medina was naturally protected.

Secondly: The two tribes of Haws and Ajas were the two main tribes of Medina and they were warriors who would not yield to anyone. Thirdly: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had a kinship relationship with the Banu Hajjaj tribe. At that time, family relationships were given great importance by the government.

The fourth reason is the Battle of Buas. You have already discussed this war. This war was a war between two tribes and in this war many leaders of the Hajjaj and Aws tribes were killed. They wanted a leader to emerge among them so that they could forget their differences and become one.

We will discuss in a few points what is the significance of Medina in Islam.

First point: Medina was the city of love and choice of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). So this city is also for Muslims. Secondly: The Dajjal will never be able to enter Medina. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) mentioned that angels are standing guard at every entrance to Medina to prevent the Dajjal.

Point number three: There was a special reward from Allah for staying patiently and enduring hardship in Medina. Medina was a city of extreme heat, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever stays in Medina despite the extreme heat, I will intercede for him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Fourth, dying in Medina has a special status. In this regard, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever dies in Medina, I will be an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Fifth, Medina is the city of faith. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that faith will return just as a snake returns to its hole. Medina is a holy city.

Sixth, Allah will protect the city of Medina. Regarding this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that whoever plots against Medina will be destroyed just as salt dissolves in water.

Seventh, Medina is the holy city. Point number eight Medina has multiple names.

However, in the Quran, Allah Almighty refers to Medina as the city of Medina.

The polytheists were not happy with the arrival of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in Medina, but their numbers were very small. Their political power was also very low. On the other hand, the Jews were not happy with the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) because they wanted a prophet to come from among them. But when they saw that a prophet had come from Arabia, they stubbornly refused to accept Islam because they were supposed to be the first to accept Islam because their scriptures mentioned the coming of a prophet.

However, the hypocrites or traitors did not appear until then. They appeared after the Battle of Badr. A large portion of the polytheists claimed to be Muslims after the Battle of Badr, but they were actually polytheists and did not accept Islam.

We see at this stage that the three main groups in Medina were Muslims, polytheists, and Jews. If the entire life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were divided into three parts, it would be Jihad Iman and Hijrah.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) first invited people to faith, then migrated, then fought jihad. And thus Islam was established.

Allah Almighty has mentioned this migration in the Holy Quran and praised of those who migrated.

For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.

    (Quran 59:8)

In this verse, Allah is testifying that the Muhajirun migrated hoping to gain Allah’s pleasure.

Then Allah praised them for their patience.

And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allah after they had been wronged – We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.

[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.

    (Quran 16: 41-42)

Allah praised them for their jihad and patience.

The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success].

    (Quran 9:20)

When the first verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), he understood that he would have to endure much hardship and this was the Hijrah.

Indeed, those who have believed and those who have emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah – those expect the mercy of Allah. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

    (Quran 2:218)

And Allah praised them because they followed the Messenger, and this is called ittaba.

Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful.

    (Quran 9:117)

Allah has praised those who humble themselves for the sake of “Din”.

And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct – Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.

    (Quran 9:100)

In this verse, Allah Almighty praised the Ansar and the Mujahideen who were loyal to Islam. Allah praised them because of their pure faith.

But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided – it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

    (Quran 8:74)

Allah Almighty has mentioned the rewards for the Muhajirun in many verses of the Quran, and some of these rewards are for this world and some for the Hereafter. Now let’s find out what rewards Allah has promised for migration.

And whoever emigrates for the cause of Allah will find on the earth many [alternative] locations and abundance. And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him – his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

    (Quran 4:100)

In the next verse, Allah Almighty says for the Ansar:

And [also for] those who were settled in al-Madinah and [adopted] the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul – it is those who will be the successful.

    (Quran 59:9)

And their Lord responded to them, “Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed – I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah, and Allah has with Him the best reward.”

    (Quran 3:195)

Another reward from Allah for the Mujahideen is high status.

The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success].

    (Quran 9:20)

Allah Almighty says in this regard that the greatest reward of Allah for the Mujahideen is entry into Paradise.

Their Lord gives them good tidings of mercy from Him and approval and of gardens for them wherein is enduring pleasure.

[They will be] abiding therein forever. Indeed, Allah has with Him a great reward.

    (Quran 9:21-22)

The greatest reward for the Mujahideen is that Allah is pleased with them.

Allah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. It is that which is the great attainment.

    (Quran 9:72)

From the air we learn that Allah will reward Muslims, but the greatest reward is Allah’s pleasure. Allah is pleased with the Mujahideen and this is the greatest reward.
