In today’s episode, we will first discuss some of the miracles of the Battle of Tabuk. The first miracle occurred after the Samuj nation had crossed over. The Muslims ran out of water while crossing the territory of the Thamud tribe. The Muslims rushed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with their teeth in their mouths. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard everything and prayed. Then it rained. The Muslim army drank water and filled their water containers. Seeing this miracle, the faith of the believers grew stronger.
The second incident was the loss of the Prophet’s Camel. On the way, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) lost his camel. At one point, his companions went out to look for it. A hypocrite or traitor named Zayd was sitting where the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)’s camel had gone missing.
He said that this man named Muhammad claims to be a prophet, but his camel is lost. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting with a man named Umar, when he said that someone had just said that the Prophet Muhammad was a false prophet. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “I know as much as Allah knows about me, and my camel is currently near this valley.” The camel’s neck rope is stuck in a tree, so camel’s is standing there. Go and get it.
After the conquest of Mecca, people began to join Islam in droves, but the number increased even more after the Battle of Tabuk.
Now we are going to mention an incident between the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his wives. It even happened that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spent a month outside the house, being arrogant towards his wives. He did not go to any of his wives. The incident took place in the ninth year of the Hijri.
Once Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and saw that many people were standing outside the house but the door was closed. He knocked on the door and entered. Then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and knocked on the closed door and asked for permission to enter. After receiving permission, he also entered the house. They entered the house and saw that the wives of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) were surrounding him and he was sitting on the ground. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said jokingly, “If my wives had asked me for something that I could not give them, I would have broken their necks.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “That is what happens to me here too.” Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to his daughter Hafsa and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked his daughter Aisha, “Do you give the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) something that he does not have?” After saying this, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) left home for a month.
And then Allah revealed this verse of the Quran:
O Prophet, say to your wives, “If you should desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and give you a gracious release. But if you should desire Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter – then indeed, Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward.”
(Quran 33:28-29)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was completely against indulgence. Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) narrated that we went without food for three consecutive lunar months, drinking only the water we had. Then a companion was surprised and asked what you used to eat then. He said that we used to eat only water and dates then. There are some verses in the Quran that mention enjoying pleasures while being limited.
Say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?” Say, “They are for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection.” Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.
(Quran 7:32)
In this verse, Allah Almighty tells the Prophet (peace be upon him) not to be intoxicated with pleasures like other people.
Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers.
(Quran 15:88)
After the revelation of Surah Azaab, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) set two conditions for his wives: either they should leave him or they should pursue worldly pleasures.
The wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who used to annoy him by complaining about him said after this verse was revealed, “We have chosen the Messenger of Allaah and the Hereafter.” Allah is pleased with them.
Today’s discussion is all about the final stages of jihad. In the ninth year of Hijri, the Prophet (peace be upon him) decided to perform Hajj and declared Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) as the Amir. Although Islam was established in Mecca at that time, even idolaters would come to the Kaaba to perform Tawaf. They still circumambulated the Kaaba while naked. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not want to perform Hajj in such a naked environment. Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for Hajj with several hundred companions. Then were the first few verses of Surah At-Tahbah revealed. But by then, the companions, led by Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), had already set out for Mecca. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to convey these verses to Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).
[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists. So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers. And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away – then know that you will not cause failure to Allah. And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment. Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]. And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
(Quran 9:1-5)
This is the only Surah where the Surah does not begin with Bismillahir Rahmanihir Rahim because this Surah is the only Surah where direct severance of ties with the disbelievers is mentioned. This was the last year for various worshippers in Mecca. After that, all forms of polytheism were banned in Mecca. This declaration marked the beginning of the journey of monotheism in Arabia. In this way, all ties with the polytheists of Arabia were severed.
