In the last episode, we discussed the Prophet Muhammad’s call to Islam outside Mecca and the issue of providing him with security. We have discussed two tribes, one is Banu Kinda and Banu Amir ibn Chacha.
They agreed to provide security to the Prophet (peace be upon him), but they agreed to it in the hope of gaining power. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not give them any hope of gaining power, even though his security was very much needed at that time. But he did not compromise in any way for Islam. On the other hand, the Banu Shayban tribe seemed quite positive about the message preached by the Prophet Muhammad. On the other hand, the Banu Shayban tribe seemed quite positive about the message preached by the Prophet Muhammad. On the other hand, the Banu Sa’ib tribe seemed quite positive about the message preached by the Prophet Muhammad. And they directly informed the Prophet (peace be upon him) of their inability. And they directly informed the Prophet (peace be upon him) of their inability.
The two tribes that agreed to help the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) selflessly were the Awj and Hajjaj.
After these two tribes embraced Islam, they were collectively called Al-Ansar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them) went to those tribes and tried to find out how much they could protect them. As such, Awj and Hajjaj were not very famous tribes. But Allah Almighty saved Islam through them. How was that possible? Let’s find out by reading this.
In the early stages of the spread of Islam, the main center of the Prophet’s call to Islam was Mecca, but the Prophet also invited people to Islam outside Mecca for Hajj and Umrah. In this way, some people outside Mecca also became Muslims, one of them being sowaid-as-sami of Medina.
Once he came to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah, and upon hearing the news of his arrival, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) met him. Once he came to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah, and upon hearing the news of his arrival, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) met him. sowaid-as-sami then said, “What I have, you probably have.”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then asked him what he had with him. He replied, “A book containing the sayings of Luqman.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, “Present it to me.” He did so, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “That is good, but I have something better than this. And that is the Quran and Allah Almighty has revealed it to me. This Quran is a guidance and a light.”
so He will show him from the Quran. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) invited him to Islam, and Suwaid said, “This is indeed beautiful.” He could not ignore the message of Islam. Then he returned to his tribe.
Shortly after this, the people of the Hazara tribe killed him. Apart from Shoaib, there is another person who talks about Islam. And he immediately decided to become a Muslim. But he backed down after being rebuked by an older man from his tribe. Ibn Hasan narrated that some people arrived in Mecca and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was pleased with their arrival.
He told them that they wanted something better than what they had come for. They asked what it was, and he replied, “I am the Messenger of Allah. Allah has sent me to His servants.” I call upon you to worship only one God and forbid you from associating anyone with Him. Then he explained Islam to them and recited the Quran to them. The narrator narrates that Moses was a young man who said, “O my people, what he is saying is the best.”
As soon as Rafi heard this, he hit Moas in the chest with his bow. He said that you will tell us about yourself, we will not tell you about other things. Then Yas became silent and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) got up and left. They moved to Medina.
A few days later, Yasmin died. The people who were close to her at the time of her death also testified that she was saying La ilaha illallah, Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah, etc. at the time of her death. And in that state he died.
This narration suggests that he died a Muslim, and Islam was ingrained in his heart at the very moment he was invited to Islam. It is true that these two people converted to Islam, but their influence did not reach Medina. Because they died in the war called Quas.
The incident began during the Hajj season when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) met some people from the Hajjaj tribe.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered their tent and asked them, “Who are you from?” They said, “We are the tribe of Hajjaj.” He said, “You are the allies of the Jews.” They said, “You are right.”
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Will you wait a moment? I wanted to talk to you.” Then they sat down in a meeting.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) invited them to Islam and the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him) took hold of their hearts. They themselves began to say, “By Allah, this is the Prophet through whom the Jews used to rule us, but let the Jews not know about this Prophet before us.”
Then he embraced Islam and told the Prophet that we left our country because there. You won’t find anything like this anywhere. Maybe God can bring them together through you.
We will go back and tell them about Islam. If Allah unites them through you, you will be the most beloved person to us.
This group of 6 people accepted Islam as soon as they received it. Which other Arab tribes did not do. There are some reasons behind this that we will discuss next.
And these 6 people not only became Muslims, but they also became individual figures of Islam.
Jabir ibn (may Allah be pleased with him) Describes that, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) visited the tents of every tribe in Mecca to invite them to Islam. But some people would come there and say, “Beware of this boy from the Quraysh, so that he doesn’t mislead you.” And Allah sent it to us after that, and we accepted it as the truth.
Then people would come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and accept Islam, and they would go to his family and preach Islam. The situation became such that every household of the Ansar became Muslim.
The six who accepted Islam promised the Prophet (peace be upon him) that they would meet him again before the next Hajj season, and they returned to Medina.
This time, 12 people came instead of 6 during the Hajj season. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw the progress of Islam in Medina, he decided to send someone to Medina who could responsibly convert non-Muslims to Islam.
The one whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) chose was named Musa bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
That is, Moses was the first ambassador sent by the Prophet (peace be upon him) outside of Mecca.
Musa was trying to convert the people of the Awj tribe to Islam. The leaders of the Aus tribe did not like the matter. The people of Medina were not like the people of Mecca, but rather they were eager to listen to others. So the leader of the largest tribe, Saad ibn Mu’adh, converted to Islam and as a result the Muslims received the key to the fort.
After accepting Islam, Saad ibn Mu’adh first went to his tribe and asked them, “What is your opinion about me?” They replied that you are the wisest and most leader among us. Then he replied to them that none of you will speak to me until you embrace Islam. Hearing this, every man of the Banu Asad tribe embraced Islam by evening.
Islam among a large section of the Al Aws tribe.
Now let’s discuss how Islam became so popular in Medina. In Mecca, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the only preacher of Islam, but most of the people in Mecca did not accept Islam. On the other hand, there was a major change in the call of Musa bin Mu’adh in Medina. But let’s analyze what were the factors behind the entry of Islam into Medina.
The two tribes of Aws and Hajjaj had been at war with each other for a long time. This war was a war for the pride of one’s tribe. And the Jews are enthusiastic against this. This war is called the War of Quas.
Many local leaders died in this war, so there was a crisis of leadership in this war. The new generation wanted this war to end. They were tired and fed up with this chaos. So when they received the invitation to Islam through the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), they hoped that this war would end through the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
On the other hand, most of the leaders in Medina were young. We have already discussed Saad ibn Mu’as, who was only 30 years old when he converted to Islam. And at that time, there was only one senior leader in Medina, and that was Ubayd, the leader of the hypocrites or traitors. If the Prophet (peace be upon him) had not come, he would have been the king of Medina. But with the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the political landscape of Medina changed completely. Therefore, Ubayd never accepted the advent of Islam easily.
But although he converted to Islam under pressure, he never accepted Islam from his heart after the Battle of Badr. He is a Muslim who lives in Medina and continues to oppose Islam throughout his life.
The Battle of Qusay was a bloody battle, yet it was through this battle that the people of Medina embraced Islam.
Secondly, the reason for the rapid acceptance of Islam by the people of Medina can be attributed to the presence of the Jews, because the Jews preached the message of the Oneness of Allah to them. And the Arabs always considered the Jewish religion better than their own.
Because the Jews were educated, they had books and knowledge was a religious matter. On the other hand, the religion of the Arabs was based on the ignorance and stories of their ancestors. They practiced some heinous customs, such as killing female children alive.
The Jews threatened the Arabs, saying that when the last Messenger comes, we will attack you and you will be destroyed just as the people of Aad were destroyed.
Allah has mentioned this in the Quran.
And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming that which was with them – although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved – but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah will be upon the disbelievers.
(Quran 2:89)
That is, the Arabs believed that a prophet would come. And that is why when those six people were invited to Islam, they realized that it was this prophet the Jews had repeatedly threatened them with. Ibn Ishaq narrates that Allah made it easy for them to accept Islam because they were in the same place with the Jews.
The Jews followed the Torah, which foretold the coming of the last prophet. The description that only matches the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The question may arise here as to why the Jews did not accept Islam even though they knew that the Prophet would come, and why the polytheists accepted Islam and continued to advance.
But the Jews did not accept Islam, but in the end they opposed Islam.
The Messenger of Allah was not sent for any particular nation, but rather he was sent for all mankind. Those who accept him are Muslims, those who reject him are non-Muslims.
The people of Awj and Hujjaj saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was not sent only to the Jewish people, but to all of humanity.
Fourth, the people of the two tribes of Uths and Hajjaj were polite and humble.
On the other hand, the people of Mecca were arrogant. Allah says in the Holy Quran to the Ansar:
And [also for] those who were settled in al-Madinah and [adopted] the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul – it is those who will be the successful.
(Quran 59:9)
Many people don’t know that Ansar is actually two tribes, but how Islam united them so that they are now collectively known as Ansar. Finally, Islam was established in Medina. The people of Medina were eager to see the Prophet (peace be upon him).
After 13 years, Mus’ab appeared before the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then one of the most important events in Islam happened, which is called The second visit to Aqaba, we will discuss it in the next episode, InshaAllah.
