The conquest of Mecca was followed by the fall of the Quraysh and the polytheists, who were the main enemies of the Muslims. Many years ago, Mecca was just a deserted desert. Allah commanded His Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to leave his wife Hagar in the desert of Mecca. Abraham (peace be upon him) followed the command of Allah to the letter. He left his wife and child in the desert of Mecca as commanded. He prayed to Allah while leaving his wife and son Ismail there.
Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.
(Quran 14:37)
Allah accepted his prayer. By Allah’s will, the Zamzam Well was established there, and that place was filled with people. Then, by the command of Allah, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son Ismail (peace be upon him) built the Kaaba.
And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], “Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing. Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”
(Quran 2:127-129)
The Kaaba that Imran (peace be upon him) built was founded on monotheism. People would come from far and wide to worship the one God, but over time, polytheism or idolatry entered there. Thus, at one time the people of Arabia deviated from the religion of Abraham, even though they claimed to preach the religion of Abraham, but in practice they did the exact opposite.
Therefore, Allah sent the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to the heart of Arabia to command people to follow the path of worshiping the One God. However, Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to convey the call of Allah to the people of the whole world.
And through this, Allah Almighty accepted the prayer of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) which he said while building the Kaaba.
When Mecca was conquered, that religion collapsed and some of the polytheists fled Mecca. When the Muslims gained full control of Mecca and idol worship was completely banned from Mecca. The monotheism of the Kaaba has returned.
Today we will discuss some of the events that took place after the conquest of Mecca.
In the last episode, we discussed that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forgave the people of Mecca, which was part of a general amnesty, but some people were not forgiven because their crimes were so heinous that they were unworthy of power, so they decided to flee Mecca. Again, some of the leaders of Mecca decided to leave Mecca out of shame and the local people. Because they had been fighting against the Muslims for so long and now they could not accept that they would have to accept the authority of the Muslims. However, their situation changed, so some of them decided to convert to Islam. Today we will discuss some of these people.
The first person we will discuss is Suhail ibn (may Allah be pleased with him). He fought bravely against the Muslims in every battle, including Badr and Uhud. He even refused to obey Allah and the Prophet during the Treaty of Hudaibiyah. After the conquest of Mecca, he decided to flee Mecca to avoid severe punishment, but he hoped that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would forgive him. He sent his son Abdullah Suhayl to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his son went and said, “O Messenger of Allah, will you forgive my father?” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied, “Of course I will forgive him, so bring him to me.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) not only forgave Sohail but also welcomed him and told his companions not to look at him with anger.
Suhail had not yet embraced Islam, but he praised the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) highly.
The name of the person being discussed next is Safain (may Allah be pleased with him). He was a great enemy of Islam. He was the one who secretly planned to kill the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after the Battle of Badr. After the conquest of Mecca, he fled fearing the death penalty. But later he went to Medina and received forgiveness from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked for two months to accept Islam, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him four months. Later he accepted Islam and the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him a large amount of property.
Then we will discuss the one whose name is Hudaybah (may Allah be pleased with him). He was a hot-blooded young man who planned to kill the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) while he was performing Tawaf after the conquest of Mecca.
As planned, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was performing Tawaf, he was walking behind him with a knife. When he approached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to find out the theft, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at him and asked, “Is your name Hudaybah?” He replied that you are right. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked him what he was thinking. He replied, “I was not thinking about anything. Rather, I was remembering Allah.” Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed his hand on his chest and said, “Astaghfirullah.” He said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his hand on my chest, my heart changed. The person I hated the most became my love. Then I became a Muslim.
Finally, we will discuss the story of Abu Ghufar, Abu Bakr’s father. He was very old at the time of the conquest of Mecca. He was angry with his son because he had converted to Islam. Due to his age, he was unable to move, so Asma, the daughter of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), took her grandfather to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
When he arrived at the court of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Why did you come with such difficulty? If you had said so, I would have gone to you.” From this we learn how generous the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was there and Abu Ghufar finally embraced Islam. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) started crying. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him why he was crying. He said, “How much better it would have been if Abu Talib had embraced Islam at your hands.”
After the conquest of Mecca, the Muslims became the most powerful nation in the Arab world. Previously, the most powerful tribe was the Quraysh tribe. After the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) destroyed the idols in Mecca, he sent Khalid bin Waleed to destroy the idols outside Mecca.
