The Quran repeatedly draws attention to the heavens and the earth as signs of Allah’s power and knowledge. One particularly thought-provoking passage appears at the end of Surah At-Talaq, where the creation of seven heavens is mentioned together with an equivalent expression concerning the earth.<\/p>\n

This description has generated several questions. Does it refer to seven layers within this planet, seven separate earths, different regions, or realities beyond what human beings can presently observe? Modern discussions sometimes connect the verse with planets, dimensions or parallel worlds. Those comparisons can be interesting, but they must not be confused with established Quranic interpretation or scientific proof.<\/p>\n

The central Quranic passage<\/h2>\n

Surah At-Talaq 65:12<\/a> states that Allah created seven heavens and, of the earth, their like. The verse continues by describing the divine command descending among them, so that people may recognise Allah’s complete power and all-encompassing knowledge.<\/p>\n

The Arabic expression wa min al-ardi mithlahunna<\/em> is central to the discussion. It indicates a likeness or correspondence between the heavens and the earths. Many commentators understood this correspondence to concern number: just as there are seven heavens, there are seven earths.<\/p>\n

The modern convention of counting seven continents developed through human geography, and other geographical systems count four, five or six. Reports attributed to Abdullah ibn Abbas have also played a major role in later discussion. One famous report speaks of beings or events in other earths resembling those known in our world. This has sometimes been used to support the idea of inhabited parallel earths.<\/p>\n

Such material requires caution. Reports attributed to early authorities vary in wording and strength, and even an accepted chain of transmission does not automatically settle how a difficult statement should be understood. The report should not be converted into a confident claim that identical human histories are occurring in parallel universes.<\/p>\n

The safest conclusion is narrower: early Muslims did not necessarily limit the verse to continents or geological layers, but the unseen details were not explained with enough certainty to support a complete cosmological theory.<\/p>\n

Could the verse describe layers of our planet?<\/h2>\n

Another interpretation connects the seven earths with layers inside the planet. Earth science distinguishes structures such as the crust, mantle and core, with further subdivisions depending on whether composition or physical behaviour is being discussed.<\/p>\n

The difficulty is that science does not recognise one uniquely required list of exactly seven terrestrial layers. Scientists divide the planet differently depending on the purpose of the model. Matching a selected list of seven layers to the verse after the fact does not demonstrate that this was the verse’s intended meaning.<\/p>\n

Geological knowledge may encourage reflection on the complexity of creation, but it should not be presented as a conclusive scientific verification of a particular interpretation.<\/p>\n

Parallel worlds and the modern multiverse<\/h2>\n

Modern physics and philosophy discuss several ideas commonly grouped under the word \u201cmultiverse.\u201d These include hypothetical universes produced by cosmic inflation, different outcomes in interpretations of quantum mechanics, and mathematical models involving additional dimensions.<\/p>\n

These proposals are not the same theory, and none has established that there are exactly seven Earth-like worlds corresponding to Quran 65:12. The similarity in language can inspire questions, but similarity is not evidence of identity.<\/p>\n
