The Farewell Hajj was the Prophet Muhammad\u2019s pilgrimage in 10 AH. It brought together teaching through worship and addresses about the community\u2019s responsibilities. The surviving accounts describe more than one address, so a modern compilation labelled \u201cthe Farewell Sermon\u201d should not automatically be treated as one continuous transcript.<\/p>\n

Pilgrimage and the Sacred House<\/h2>\n

Quran 3:96\u201397 connects pilgrimage with the Sacred House and speaks of the obligation for those able to make the journey. It provides the religious setting for the Hajj. Jabir\u2019s detailed account in Sahih Muslim 1218a then follows the Prophet and the pilgrims through the actual journey.<\/p>\n

Jabir describes entering ihram, circumambulating the Kaaba, prayer near the Station of Ibrahim and the passages between Safa and Marwa. These arrival rites preceded the later gathering at Arafat. Keeping that sequence clear avoids making events from different days appear simultaneous.<\/p>\n

Arafat and the message to the pilgrims<\/h2>\n

In Jabir\u2019s narration, the address near Arafat stresses the inviolability of life and property, the ending of inherited blood claims and usury, responsibilities towards women and adherence to the Book of God. It places moral obligations at the centre of the pilgrimage, not outside it.<\/p>\n

The report also contains historically specific wording about marital discipline. That passage should not be detached from the wider sources or used as permission for abuse. Aisha\u2019s testimony in Muslim 2328a states that the Prophet did not strike a woman or servant. This article is a historical overview, not personal legal advice about marriage.<\/p>\n

The day associated with Quran 5:3<\/h2>\n

Bukhari 45 records Umar identifying the setting in which Quran 5:3 was revealed: the Prophet was at Arafat on a Friday. The verse\u2019s statement about the completion of religion gives this moment a special place in Muslim memory.<\/p>\n

This does not mean every saying attributed to the Farewell Pilgrimage was spoken at that exact moment. The Quranic verse, Jabir\u2019s account and reports of addresses on other days each have their own setting. Reading them separately first makes their relationship easier to follow.<\/p>\n

From Arafat to the later rites<\/h2>\n

Jabir\u2019s account continues with the movement to Muzdalifah, remembrance at al-Mashar al-Haram, the rites at Mina, sacrifice and the return to the Kaaba. It records worship as a sequence of actions across several places, rather than a single ceremony.<\/p>\n

This summary is not a substitute for practical Hajj instruction. The forms of pilgrimage, individual circumstances and questions about the rites require fuller study. Its purpose is to show how the final pilgrimage fits into the Prophet\u2019s life and teaching.<\/p>\n

A message to be passed on accurately<\/h2>\n

A separate address on the Day of Sacrifice appears in Bukhari 67. It emphasises the sanctity of people\u2019s lives, property and honour, and asks those present to convey the message to those absent. This explains why transmission itself is part of the pilgrimage\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n

For a reader today, accurate transmission means more than sharing an inspiring quotation. It means identifying the report, respecting its context and avoiding additions presented as the Prophet\u2019s exact words. The Farewell Hajj joins devotion to responsibility towards others; both deserve careful attention as the series approaches the final period of his life.<\/p>\n
